On a recent visit to MONA – the Museum of Old and New Art in Hobart, Tasmania – the husband and I decided to make a day of it and eat lunch at Faro, one of their restaurants. It was here that I fell in love with this gorgeous black and gold cutlery from a Cutipol. I hadn’t heard of the brand before, but I was so in love that I took a close up shot to look them up later and buy them so I could feel fancy every time I dined, even if it’s on my couch in front of Netflix!
So you can imagine how much it crushed my soul to discover that a set of these bad boys would set me back approximately $800.
BUT it did lead down the online shopping rabbit hole and I found something similar for less than a tenth of the price, which I’m proud to say I now call my own. And while I’m a firm believer that sometimes you have to pay for quality, when it comes to decorating and trend pieces, I don’t necessarily want to spend too much and I find that a little imagination and design trial and error is key! So inspired by my find, I’ve found some ‘dupes’ for my other current favourite homewares and I’m sharing them to inspire you to get creative with decorating.
Black and gold cutlery
First off the cutlery, I found this option from Harris Scarfe (right) which make the same impact as the Cutipol (left) set for a fraction of the cost. Winning!
Ok you got me, I also became obsessed with the pink plates at Faro too. But while I love these Country Road ones (left), these Ikea ones (right) would do the job as well.
I’m kinda obsessed with Fenton & Fenton, but when I saw this gold ornament (left) I thought I’d seen it before. And lo and behold, Kmart (right) do a very similar one which also doubles as a money box!
I’m always looking for bedside tables because it’s the one thing I haven’t been able to get right. I love these ones at West Elm (left), but these ones from Target (right) which have the same colourway and simple shape, would make a good alternative.
