In my last blog post on dressing up, I made a case for why we should be dressing up everyday (think improving your mood and having fun, just to name a few!) While dressing up can mean different things to different people, in the second post of my two-part series I’ve come up with some simple ways we can all use to dress up everyday – whatever your style.
I’ve documented my love for bright lipsticks on the blog before, but it’s worth repeating here. Wearing a bold coloured lip is an easy yet effective way to dress up everyday because no matter what you’re wearing, a simple slash of colour on your lips will automatically lift any outfit! While I tend to favour a bold red (like I’m wearing in my header image) or a candy pink, any bright colour works. At the moment I’m loving the purple shades I’m seeing everywhere!
Chipped nail polish is a pet peeve of mine – but it’s also something I’m often guilty of! As weird as it sounds, sometimes it sneaks up on me and I realise all of a sudden that the little chip I thought I could get away with has not only grown bigger but has been joined by friends across my different nails! No matter the colour, freshly painted (or freshly corrected!) nails are a simple way to not only dress up everyday, but make you feel like you have your sh!t together.
There’s no such thing as ‘special occasion only’
This is a mantra that I’m admittedly still learning, but something that I encourage others to try: There’s no such thing as ‘special occasion only’. While this isn’t to say that there are pieces that are best suited to certain occasions, we shouldn’t be afraid of dressing up and using our special and most-loved pieces on a daily basis. I’m the first to admit that I’m guilty of this. Whether I don’t want to seem too dressed up or I’m worried about ruining an expensive piece, some of my luxe pieces spend more time in the wardrobe than they do out. But in trying to change that (like taking this YSL bag out to brunch, for example) I’ve realised that by just adding one of my nicer pieces to an otherwise ordinary, relaxed outfit, I feel much more put together and ready to take on the world!
I hope this series on dressing up has encouraged you to start thinking about how you can ‘dress-up’ in your everyday life!
