Classic is always in vogue

If I were to try and describe my style when it comes to fashion, it would probably be something along the lines of ‘classic with a modern edge’. I usually gravitate towards simple and minimal pieces with clean lines, so I would say I tend to look more androgynous than feminine. Nonetheless, I do own some classic pieces that could be considered to be either style.

These Salvatore Ferragamo loafers that I picked up a few years ago in Italy are just one example; while they are a bit more more ‘girly’ than what I would normally wear thanks to the bow, the gold hardware and the contrast of the grosgrain against the patent leather add a modern spin. The bonus about pieces like this, is that they never go out of style. Case in point: my mum’s Salvatore Ferragamo bag which she bought years ago featuring the same gold hardware and grosgrain.

Although this bag is looking a little worn (or as I like to think of it, pre-loved), both she and I have used it over the years thanks to its classic but modern look. Here I’ve styled it with my trusty boyfriend jeans and a white tank to create a look that’s laid back cool rather than feminine and dressy.

So next time you’re investing in a piece that costs more than you might normally spend, think about whether you’ll still be wearing it years from now and that might help make the decision that little bit easier!
