It’s not often that I splurge on make-up. Being someone who doesn’t wear all that much of it – I prefer a natural look for day-to-day wear and often don’t even bother with anything other than mascara for work – I don’t tend to need a lot of products. So when I do spend money on make-up, it has to be something pretty damn special! My recent haul from Mecca is no exception. Here’s what I bought:
This tinted moisturiser is everything it promises to be and more. It leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth, and brightens up my vampire-esque pale skin without leaving it looking unnaturally dark. I love this for everyday wear as it provides natural looking coverage that lasts the whole day.
I’m not normally one to contour or highlight (the effort…!) but having them come in a two-in-one stick makes it just that little bit easier. I love using the bronze shade to contour my cheeks and the lighter shade to add a bit of luminosity to my cheekbones.
Prior to discovering this two in one cheek and lip colour from Bobbi Brown, I had never been able to find the perfect blush – they were either too bright, too shiny, too pink or too glittery (I’m looking at you, Nars Orgasm!). But I’m glad to report that my quest is finally over! This blush just glides on and I love that the colour is subtle with the option to build it up if you want more.
Stila One Step Correct ($52)
I know this is a big call, but this corrector from Stila is one of the best make-up items I have ever purchased. Period. As someone who is prone to redness, this has been an absolute life-changer. The serum neutralises my redness, brightens my dark spots and sits perfectly under my make-up. If you are prone to redness at all, you must try this STAT! I took home a sample first and went back to purchase it after one use.
This concealer comes a very close second in the ‘make-up-that-has-changed-my-life’ stakes. I have a few broken capillaries on my face that a corrector just can’t help, but a couple of touches of this concealer and I am good to go! While the coverage is buildable for more serious situations, I find that even a light application is enough to last me the whole day. My only regret is that I didn’t discover this earlier!
With so many products out there and only a basic knowledge of the beauty world, I can sometimes find shopping for make-up overwhelming at times. So while I love all of these purchases, they did take a long time – and many used and discarded samples – to find. I encourage you to do what I did and make the most of asking for samples – you never know what you’ll discover!
