Transeasonal dressing made simple

Just because it’s finally hit spring here in Melbourne, it doesn’t mean that the weather becomes any less predictable – or that dressing for our infamous Melbourne weather becomes any easier!

Transeasonal clothes are the foundation of any wardrobe (and any weather) and it’s important to invest in items that can be worn again and again.

After experimenting with transeasonal dressing for a long time now, here are my key foundational pieces that will keep you looking stylish during this tricky time:

Invest in a basic tee

A basic tee is the easiest way to master transeasonal dressing. The perfect foundation for layering, a basic tee in any colour can be paired with jeans, skirts, shorts – anything really! – and can be worn under anything from a coat to a cardigan. My current favourite is this Comme de Garcons tee, which I also own in white and black.

Introduce white or neutrals

I can’t believe I’m saying this given my penchant for black, but another way to create a stylish transeasonal look is to wear white, nude or neutral colours to create a crisp look that’s perfect for the changing weather. While I personally can struggle with this, I find that even wearing a lighter coloured jean with a light tshirt can achieve this look, and I love pairing a more neutral look with black and rose gold accessories.

Embrace the midi skirt

Having recently bought my first midi skirt, these babies are a handy transeasonal piece for any wardrobe. The longer hemline means they work just as well with an ankle boot in cooler weather as they do with a summer sandal on a warm day, and they can easily be dressed up with a structured top or dressed down with a basic tee. With this look here, I went for a laid back chic look by pairing it with a satin blouse with shimmery shoulder details.

I hope these key pieces help you nail transeasonal dressing!
